a pair of swims

Two swims to over Waitangi weekend.  Do one or both.  

A fast swim.  A 12 km downriver swim in the Waiau river. Expect rapids up to class I and possible periods of sphincter clenching, depending on your comfort level with speeding boulders. Have a look at what to expect HERE.  Check out our FAQS.  FOR MEMBERS ONLY.

A long swim.  Swim from Te Anau to Manapouri.  The route includes 3 km across lake Te Anau, roughly 23 km of river swimming down the Waiau river, and another 9ish km on lake Manapouri, for a total of 35 km. Expect the swim to take between 5 and 9 hours, depending on your abilities and weather conditions.  Wesuits are strongly recommended.  All swimmers for the long swim are required to have a support kayaker/SUPer/packrafter for the event. We can try to help you find one if you're not bringing your own, but may have limited success, so if you really need us to provide one, make sure you reach out early.  HERE is a map of the course.
